Players react to the waiving of Jason Hill, Del Rio not being on the practice field, and more….

Let’s see if we can count up all the changes that the Jaguars made this week:

  1. Fired head coach Jack Del Rio
  2. Sold the team to Shahid Khan
  3. Extended GM Gene Smith three years.
  4. Made Defensive Coordinator Mel Tucker Interim Head Coach.
  5. Fired Wide Receivers coach Johnny Cox
  6. Shifted Offensive Coordinator Dirk Koetter over to QB coach as well
  7. Waived WR Jason Hill

Did I miss anything?  The team practiced yesterday for the first time with all of the “new changes” in affect.  Here’s WR Mike Thomas, QB Blaine Gabbert, and TE Marcedes Lewis with their reaction to Hill’s release, what it’s like to not have JDR out on the practice field, and getting their minds back to football:

WR Mike Thomas:

*on whether he was surprised that Jason Hill got cut: Thomas1

*on whether the receivers were getting coached well enough: Thomas2

*on how different day 1 under Mike Sheppard was: Thomas3

*on whether they’ll be ready for Monday Night Football: Thomas4

QB Blaine Gabbert:

*on what the first practice under Mel Tucker was like: Gabbert1

*on what the message before practice consisted of: Gabbert2

*on how the coaching changes (losing Mike Sheppard to the receiver corp and picking up Koetter as his QB coach) affects him: Gabbert3

*on the team’s mindset for the remainder of the season: Gabbert4

*on how he processes so many changes in such a short time frame: Gabbert5

*on his reaction to the team releasing WR Jason Hill: Gabbert6

*what he learned from being pulled last week: Gabbert7

TE Marcedes Lewis:

*on handling the changes: Lewis1

*on how odd it was to not have Del Rio out at practice: Lewis2

*on whether the change provides a spark for the team: Lewis3
