Jags @ Jets PreviewPosted: September 15, 2011
I’ll give the Jaguars credit. They’ve played the Jets very well over the past couple of years. They’re 6 and 2 against New York in the past 8 meetings and could make it 7 and 2 after this upcoming weekend. But there are a couple of things they are going to have to do well in order to do that. First off, they’ve got to be able to throw the ball. The Jets are with out a doubt going to stack the box and try and shut down Maurice Jones-Drew and Deji Karim. However, that’s no easy task, considering New York will have Antonio Cromartie and Darelle Revis in the secondary.
On the defensive side of the ball, Jacksonville has to shut down Santonio Holmes and Plaxico Burress. I know Burress only had one catch in week one, but it was a big one and we all know what Holmes is capable of doing. Here’s Jack Del Rio and Maurice Jones-Drew on some of their thoughts heading into this weekend’s match up as well as a few other things…
The best comment Del Rio had was his response to whether or not Luke was going to look for Cecil Shorts for some upcoming opportunities to show what the wide receiver can do: JDR
Del Rio on his past coaching relationship with Rex Ryan: JDR1
Del Rio on whether or not the Jets defensively do things different than other teams: JDR2
Del Rio on Jets QB Mark Sanchez: JDR3
Del Rio on the limited number of plays that LB Clint Session was used in against the Titans and whether it just worked out that way: JDR4
Del Rio on DL John Chick fitting in to the Jags defense: JDR5
Del Rio on Jacksonville’s D-line being better this year: JDR6
Del Rio on whether he’s a strictly run offense guy: JDR7
Switching over to running back Maurice Jones-Drew, MJD had a chance to talk about the challenges that the Jets defense presents: MJD1
Mojo also talked about what the offense needs to do to be successful. It’s pretty simple: MJD2
I can’t wait for this game because I think it’s going to be a much more accurate assessment of what this team is capable of doing. Let’s bring it Jags!
